Crisis of Electricity in UP

Last week DERC Uttar Pradesh approved power tariff up to 40% for domestic, commercial and rural consumers in the state. Surprisingly the industrial sector has been spared from this like. Samjwadi Party came to power in 2012 assembly elections on a promise of power supply for 20 hrs in rural areas and fro 22 hrs in urban areas and distributions of lap-tops and tablets to the students.

Due to ante people policies of U.P.A. Govt. at centre and the state Government the common people are finding if difficult to manage two times meal and last week price hike of Petrol, Diesel by union govt. and hike in the price of electricity by U.P. Govt. will further compound the problem of common people who have already searched at the stage of starvation.

With mercury rearing in the state, the gain power situation has destructed the life completely. In the last 15 days the continuous power failure has forced the people resorting to violence in more than 25 places in the state over incessant power cuts. In the state capital during 2nd week of May 2013 people vandalized four sub stations. They went on rampage after going without power and water supply for more then12hrs.

All major localities of Lucknow including. Aliganj, Kapurthala, Daliganj, Ashiana, Chinhat, Gokhaley Marg, Alambag, Hans Nagar were hit by power cut. The dental department and maternity centre of KGMC remained in dark over 18 hrs. if this is the situation of power cut in the state’s capital one can easily imagine the plight of people living in rural areas 90% of the people of the reeling under power crisis but VVIP constituencies like Mainpuri, Etawa, Raibarelie, Amethi, Rampur and Kannauj are getting power supply for 24×7 ( for 7 days and 24 hours.)

Few months bake Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde wrote to PMO as power minister of the country that UP is drauing more power from Central pool which resulted into Northern grid Collapse and on the other hand 90% of the population are crying for power crisis. The problem is lack of proper distribution system and power theft. The reason for power crisis is corruption of a section of officials who allow power theft for meager pecuniary gains and the consumers who steel the power. Even Samajwadi Party supremo Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav in a meeting accepted the power theft of 40% in the state but inspite of concern of Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav his government is yet to take a action to stop the power theft and ensure proper distribution of electricity in the state. This situation is worsb in eastern Uttar Pradesh supply. Consequently the Vegetable crop of Jayod are dried and people are forced the drink contaminated water.

Our young Chief Minister is busy with distribution of Lap-tops and battles and on the other hand the state is finding it difficult to pay the dues of other state from where we purchase electricity. As per the report of UPPCL ( Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd.) The state have to pay dues about Rs.3200 Crore to various states including Rs. 180 Crore to small state like Himachal Pradesh and many states have threatened to stop the power supply in case of non payment of dues.

The electricity crisis in the state can be resolved by redwing the gap between the demand and supply. The famous Dadri Project could not executed because of political revelry between SP and BSP Government Ab present there is a gap of 43% in demand

and supply in the state. The projected demand for summer in year 2013-14 is about 15839 MW against the projected supply of 9007 MW this there is gap of 6839 MW between demand and supply where as in 2012 the state has seen a demand of 12048 MW with a gap of 1739 MW.

Though the Electricity Crisis during summer is seen in many parts of the country but the situation in Uttar Pradesh is very dismal the relief to the consumer from log hour power cut should be top priority of the Government. These long hour power cuts are resulting into loss of agricultural as well as commercial activities. The country is already pacing decline in the economic growth and failure of agricultural and commercial activities in a state life Uttar Pradesh will create a devastating situation. The sate Govt. should develop Infrastructure for proper distribution of electricity in the state. The power theft of 40% electricity in the stat is alarming and the incident of power theft should be laugh to stop the misuse of electricity as we have seen in rural areas. The remedial stop should be taken immediately to stop the situation becoming worst
